The Army-Navy game is a big deal in our house. We go all out with C in his Long-O (seen above), sword saber fights, trash talk, spirit videos, loads of food, and of course, booze. Because as C’s buddy says, “Win or Lose, We Still Booze.” Unfortunately, Army has done a lot of losing in the recent past – they haven’t won an Army-Navy game since he was a senior (sorry, Firstie). But we have a great time and usually have some friends over to watch the game, or when we’re on the East Coast, we generally go to the game with some of C’s friends and a flask.
These pics are from the first Army-Navy game we went to together. C and I didn’t even have tickets. We managed to score a tailgate pass and I made tons of food, expecting that the guys in his old Company would come by and eat everything and drink our keg of beer. In the end, our friend’s dad gave us his extra tickets and we were able to go to the game (that year at M&T Bank in Baltimore), almost no one came to eat, the tap broke on the keg, and we ended up wandering around Baltimore City after the game was over, handing out the several dozen jello shots that we had left over. Other notable events: I saw a pirate almost get his car towed (no, I am not kidding!), and the guys tailgating next to us shared the most amazing rum blend in the history of sugarcane-based alcoholic beverages. It was an awesome day.
This year will probably be kind of low-key, since we have a party on Friday night, and two parties on Saturday night, so we will need to keep the insanity to a minimum for optimal sobriety later in the day. But there will still be mimosas, overcoats, and yelling.
Anyway, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite Spirit Spot videos. These are classic. Besides, I have to get back to making drinks and breakfast.
